Junior A girls win Connacht Final
Portumna’s Junior A Camogie team had a great win over Oran in the Connacht Junior A Final in Oran, Co. Roscommon last Sunday. The girls continued their winning success beating Oran on a scoreline 5-10 to 0-5. The Oran girls put up a great display of camogie but our side were eager to keep their non-beaten record intact. This win brings the club year to an end for this team and after all their hard and intense training the dividends paid off. The girls can now look forward to the Intermediate Championship next year.

U-16 Camogie Team Win County Final Replay
It was a great day for the club in Loughrea on Sunday evening when the U-16’s defeated Craughwell in the County Final having already won the Junior A the previous Sunday. Having met in the first round and two weeks ago in the final we knew the replay was going to be an evenly contested match. Portumna led going into the first half with a goal from Katie O’Brien.
All changed in the second half when Katie put the ball over the bar but Craughwell came back and got the goal they had been looking for. Portumna’s Ciara Walsh scored a superb point from play and a free from Nicola Muldoon put us two points ahead. A further point from Katie O’Brien – Captain gave Portumna the advantage.
However, things turned round when Craughwell got a goal to leave only a point between the sides. With time running out Joan Poland blew the final whistle securing victory for Portumna leaving the final score Portumna 1-4 to Craughwell 2-0.
Well done to Shannon Whelan, Emma Ruttledge, Larah Brady, Caoimhe Horan, Marion Lynch, Nicola Muldoon, Caoimhe Tully, Katie O’Brien (Capt), Caitriona Eames, Rhona Geraghty, Niamh Molloy, Hazel Treacy, Tara Harte, Brona Molloy, Niamh Hackett, Niamh Houlihan, Nicola Walsh, Jessica Canning, Ciara Walsh, Chloe O’Brien, Sarah Fitzpatrick.

Junior A Girls Advance to Intermediate Status
Sunday evening in Killimor saw Portumna’s Junior A girls advance to the Intermediate grade against Mullagh. Portumna were first to put their name on the scoreboard with a pointed free from Tara Ruttledge followed by a goal from Portumna’s Mary Burke who was in fine form. Katie O’Brien added to their tally with a point and another free from Tara to put them 1-3 to ahead. Mullagh found the net but it was Mary Burke who replied with two goals. Tara came through for a point and Megan Moran quickly threw over her first point. Tara secured another point but it was Brid Gordon who fired home another goal for the home side. Tara pointed two more frees whilst the talented Mary Burke found the Mullagh net twice more. Mullagh pointed three frees to leave the half time score Portumna 6-8 to Mullagh 1-3.
Mullagh opened the scoring in the second half with a goal from a well taken free followed by a point and a goal from play by Tara. Katie put her name on the scoreboard in the second half followed by a second goal from Brid Gordon. Tara put over another point and Mary Burke got her first point of the day. With Portumna using all their substitutions Mullagh came back into the game and hit Portumna for three goals and three points and a pointed free to leave the full time score Portumna 8-12 to Mullagh 5-7.
Without doubt the Portumna girls made sure they were moving up to the next level. A great overall display with a magnificent individual display from Mary Burke earning her the well deserved player of the match. It’s a great achievement for a small club and a deserving reward for all concerned for all their hard work throughout the year. Well done to: Ciara Molloy, Orla Hayes, Trish Burke (Capt), Emma Keane, Mandy Moore, Triona Byrne, Lindsay McClearn, Sarah Conboy, Nicola Muldoon, Katie O’Brien, Megan Moran, Tara Ruttledge, Mary Burke, Philippa Coleman, Brid Gordon. U-16 County Final Report
The U-16's drew with Craughwell in the County Final. It was an a low scoring game both teams evenly matched. Portumna were first to put their name on the score board with a pointed free from Nicola Muldoon. Craughwell answered with a pointed free also. Katie O'Brien scored a point from play and Craughwell replied with a point. However, before half time Craughwell got a goal leaving the half time score Portumna 0-2 to Craughwell's 1-2.
It was all to play for in the second half with Portumna getting the opening score again with a pointed free from Nicola, followed by a point from Katie. It turned out to be an exciting second half Craughwell having yet to score. A pointed free from Nicola secured a draw for the girls. They did very well to keep the opposing team scoreless in the second half, leaving the final score Portumna 0-5 to Craughwell 1-2. Well done to the defence who did great work. The U-16 Camogie team have also reached the Co. Final stage of their championship. Having been beaten by Ahascragh in the group game already it was an even bigger challenge for the girls to secure a place in the final.
Having lost home venue the girls travelled to Clontuskert to take on Ahascragh. The girls put up a great fight in the first half and made sure the half was theirs with scores from Brona Molloy, Niamh Molloy and Nicola Muldoon. The half time score was Portumna 2 3 to Ahascragh 1 2. The second half saw both sides experiencing difficulty to find the posts. Katie O' Brien and Niamh Molloy were the dual scorers in the latter part of the second half while Ahascragh only managed to get one score. The final score was Portumna 3 6 to Ahascragh 2 2.

Last Saturday saw the meeting of Portumna and Turloughmore in Ballindereen in the Junior A Camogie semi final. The home team having previously beaten Turlough in the league final already this year.
It was Katie O'Brien who got the first point of the game, followed by a point from Tara Ruttledge. Megan Moran put her name on the scoreboard getting her first of three points. Tara was pulled down in the square to give a penalty to Portumna. Tara put this in the back of the net and another free taken by Tara went over the bar. The final score of the first half came from Nicola Muldoon with a point. This leaving the half time score Portumna 2-7 to Turloughmore 1-2.
The second half saw more action from both sides. A free by tara went over the bar followed by two points from Turlough. Another point from play by Tara and a clever goal from sub Niamh McClearn kept the side ahead. Turlough replied with a goal in their end. U-10 News
Well done to the U-10 Camogie team on reaching the Semi-Final. The girls travelled to Coolarne to play Turloughmore in the Quarter Final. A great performance from all the girls on the day helped make it a one nil victory for Portumna, the only score in the game coming from Shauna Muldoon in the first half.
The team were drawn against Cappataggle in the Semi Final. The girls put up a great battle with Michelle Mitchell scoring a point from a free in the first half. However, the second half saw Cappataggle score a goal from a free. The girls fought to the end but unfortunately for us it was the opposing team who came out on top. Two pointed frees by Nicola Muldoon brought them to the end of the first half, leaving the score: Portumna 1-4 to Athenry 0-1.
The second half was very disappointing for the home team with only a point coming from play from Tara Ruttledge whilst Athenry scored one goal from play and three frees.
