Junior Alliance Report
The Junior Alliance was formed in the Winter of 2008 and the clubs included are Portumna, Curra West, Gort, Loughrea, Athenry, Mountbellew, & Galway.
The cost for each player is €7 with the breakdown as follows - €5 for the club and €2 to buy prizes. A bank account will be opened in Bank of Ireland to place any excess money into and at the end of the year it can be used to purchase prizes.

3. Connacht Junior Close Championship at Portumna on Tuesday 27th July U13, U15, U17. They enter themselves. Closing date for clubs to enter players is Monday 5th July entry fee is €10 per person
4. Kenny Cup date Monday 9th August at Swinford Golf Club we have 2 teams each team will consist of 5 players
(D) Summer Camps
These will be organized by John Coyle during the months of July and August duration 5 Day’s
(E) Our own internal Competitions for 2010
We will have Thursday mornings designated for Junior Competitions

- Adults - 6 lessons duration 1 hour cost €90 limited to 10 persons
- Short Game Clinic - This is for 3 weeks 1 hour lessons and it is geared towards improving your Short game the cost is €45 limited to 10 persons

Junior Camp
Following the very successful Junior Camp held at Portumna Golf Club in July, John Coyle is holding another one from Tuesday 11th August to Friday 14th August. please book your time slot there are 2 sessions daily 9am to 12 midday and 1pm to 4pm ring Jim Hynes on 087 6411711 or John Coyle 086 8548787 John is also giving lessons from Sunday 9th August timesheet in clubhouse.
Junior Captains Prize
Cathal Lowry the Junior Captain for 2009 held his Captains Prize on last Wednesday it was very well attended and the weather was magnificent for the occasion. The scoring was exceptionally good, the eventual winner was Conor Kelly playing off 16 he shot a 66 nett, 2nd Simon Lowry (16) 67 Nett, 3rd Owen McIntyre (21) 68 nett back 9, and 4th Ronan O Meara(24) 68 nett. The 9 hole Competition for the younger golfers the winner was Eoin Barry, 2nd Mark O Sullivan, 3rd Conor Hackett, Congratulations to everyone who took part, and to Cathal Lowry for his dedication on the day and over the last year.

Roisin O Byrne
Roisin O Byrne from Woodford was selected for the Connacht Interprovincial under 15s team, they play Ulster on the 19th August in Athy. Roisin is a member of Curra West and Portumna Golf Club, her Dad Justin is the Junior Golf Ireland Representative for Connacht, her brothers Cathal and Sean are on the Connacht Junior Foresomes team they will be playing in the All-Ireland Junior Foresomes in Mallow later this month.

Junior Golf Information
Junior Golf at Portumna GC is flourishing at the moment, we have over 90 members from all ages. In 2005 the management committee at the club adopted the Junior Golf Ireland Charter "'Code of Ethics for Golf for Young People"We have excellent facilities for coaching Juniors of all ages-beside the famous 17th green is a chipping and putting green with sand bunkers as well so you can keep your short game in focus. Also included is a practice ground adjacent to the 1st fairway, so all the facilities are in and around the clubhouse.
The Junior Convenor is Jim Hynes 087 6411711 and the committee are Mairead Taylor O Neill, Sharon Maloney, Ann Carty and Johanna Burke.
We are always looking for volunteers to join our helpers, and we envisage running a Leader Programme held over 1 day in order to train parents both male and female to help with the coaching. We will need about 10 people so if you are interested in becoming a Volunteer ring any of the committee.
Saturday mornings the "Junior Juniors" programme is implemented-this is an innovative idea and it is set up to teach junior boy's and girls from the ages of 6 to 11 years of age. It has proven very successful and we hope to keep it going through the Fall and the Winter.
On Saturdays the 1st tee is reserved from 3pm to 3.45pm for the more senior juniors in other words those kids that can get around the course without causing delays.
