Thursday 29th September
Events at Portumna Workhouse
To mark the centenary of the Easter Rising, history and heritage experts from Eneclann and Findmypast are visiting the Irish Workhouse Centre on September 29th (12-5pm) to help people trace their ancestors. On the day you can expect a talk on the 1916 rising (1:30), free access to billions of family history records on Findmypast.ie, and one-to-one genealogy sessions (booking is strongly advised).

Line Dancing Classes starting on Thursday 29th September in Shragh Community Centre, Shragh, Woodford (8.30pm – 10.00pm). Come and join the High Energy, Heart Pumping and Calorie Burnin’ Fun. Pay as you Go.
Saturday 1st October
Events at Portumna Workhouse
Upcoming events include the visit of the Irish clans to Athenry on October 1st. Entitled ‘Gathering of the Clans, Athenry 2016’, the day has been arranged to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the 1316 battle of Athenry. The event will take place in the Athenry Community Centre in Clarke Street. One of the highlights of the day will be a talk by Dr Nollaig Ó Muraíle titled ‘The Gaelic nobility in the battle of Athenry, 1316 – those who fought, and those who fell’. The free lecture will be at 2.30 pm.
Sunday 2nd October
Traditional Music Session
The South East Galway Comhaltas will be holding a traditional music session in Boula Hall on Sunday, 2nd October, commencing at 5.00pm - all musicians and beginners and those wishing to take up an instrument are heartily welcome. Remember how enjoyable our last session was (made so by all who attended and the warm hospitality of the Boula Hall committee). Registration will also take place on the day and information in relation to the classes required will be gathered so the branch can finalise a list of tutors (a list based on demand).

Thursday 6th October
South East Galway Archaeological and Historical Society
The society’s next lecture, by Frances Holohan of the Abbey Heritage Group, will be on Father Eugene Nevin and his association with the leaders of the 1916 rising. The lecture takes place on Thursday 6 October at 7:30pm in the Irish Workhouse Centre in Portumna. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Dance Classes in Town Hall

First Aid Course

Croi Night Run on The Prom
Will take place on Fri 14th Oct on the Salthill Prom. Entries now open on www.croi.ie. Entry fee is €35 and each participant will receive a reflective running vest & Croi branded neck muff. Run/walk or jog.
Sunday 16th October
On Sunday 16 October from 3pm-5pm, will be 'The Wonder Around Us' taken place in Lorrha Village. Basically its a celebration and reflection of creation. There will be an interactive history of the Big Bang when the universe began, The theme for this event is water so there will be a tour of our village taken in the history of water through historical, natural and spiritual aspects. This is hoped will become an annual event and Lorrha was picked for its ancient historical past. More details to follow.
