Portumna Development Company AGM
The AGM of Portumna & District Development Company will take place on Monday 8th March at 8.00pm at the Shannon Oaks Hotel Portumna. It is important that as many people as possible attend this meeting, Portumna needs to move forward and your input is vital.
Portumna Library Art Exhibition
Library Ireland Week is taking place in Portumna Library from Monday 8th March to Friday 13th March. To celebrate this week an Art Exhibition will be launched on Monday 8th @ 7.30 pm and will include a recital by the OMNA Singers.
Portumna Red Cross AGM
The local Red Cross AGM will take place on Monday next the 8th March in Na Calai at 8pm. The Portumna Branch of the Irish Red Cross are actively looking to recruit new members from 12 years up to adult.
Portumna GAA - All Ireland Club Final Tickets
Croke Park ticket office will be in the Shannon Oaks Hotel on Monday 8th March from 6pm to 8.30pm. Tickets for the All Ireland club final can be purchased on the night.

Sign Out Youth Project Open Evening
Sign Out Youth committee, would like to invite all young people and parents to an Open Night in Sign Out, on Tuesday 9th March from 7pm to 8pm. The aim of the Open Night is to show people this purpose built youth space and all weather pitch, the activities and programmes offered and to actively involve young people on the night in some of these activities, the emphasis is on 'doing' and actively taking part, rather than just 'talking about it'. The Youth Committee is made up of 16 to 18 year old members of Sign Out, who would like other young people to become part of the 'Sign Out Experience' a valuable asset to the local community. Loughrea Electoral Area Local Community Forum Annual General Meeting on the 9th March in O’Deas Hotel, Loughrea at 8pm. Guest speakers will be Kenneth Finn on Alison Community Training Programme and Máire Ní Dhuibhir & Ray O’ Donoghue who will speak on the Galway Community Forum. All are welcome.

Portumna Library Crochet Workshop
Library Ireland Week is taking place in Portumna Library from Monday 8th March to Friday 13th March. On Wednesday 10th March Hayley will hold a Crochet Workshop @ 7.15pm. If you would like to come along and crochet a flower with Hayley please call in and bring your crochet hook.
Gortanumera Development Association AGM
AGM on Wednesday 10th March 2010 at 9 pm at Scoil Mhuire Gortanumera. The present committee would love to see some new members come along with their views and ideas for the coming year. We try to keep our meetings short, start on time and finish on time. All are welcome.

Friday night 12th March in Shannon Oaks Hotel Nob Nation is coming to town as an All Ireland fundraiser hosted by the GAA. RTE's Oliver Callen is bringing his hilarious act to Portumna. Doors open at 8:15pm. On stage at 9pm. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at D.Lynch & Sons, Ladies Day Boutique, Shannon Oaks or from any committee member. Kilbarron Players present "Fortunes and Misfortunes" by Jimmy Keary in Kilbarron Hall on Friday night March 19th through to Sunday night 21st and the group are back on stage the following weekend 27th & 28th at 8.00pm. Portumna’s own Marian Frawley produces this play.

The season is to kick off with a Trout Competition on Sunday March 21st from 2pm - 6pm. Start and finish at the club.
Portumna Town Hall Tea Dance
The monthly tea dance will be held in the Town Hall Portumna on Sunday the 21st March at 3pm. The funds rised will go towards the upkeep of the Hall. Mr Donie O Meara has offered a weekend away to 2 lucky winners, so put on your dancing shoes and get ready to take to the floor.

Secret of the Bog Bodies
The South East Galway Archaeological & Historical Society will hold a talk on Tuesday the 30th March in Portumna Retirement Village at 8.30 pm. The topic will be "The Secret of the Bog Bodies", by Ned Kelly, keeper of the Antiquities at the National Museum of Ireland (NMI). Mr Kelly brings many years experience as a professional archaeologist and keeper of antiquities at NMI to bear on this very interesting subject. He will on the night share his own theory about the ritual deposition of these bodies along territorial boundaries and explore the cultural significance of this act. He will also discuss the excavation and conservation at the NMI in Kildare Street Dublin. The National Museum is free to all and is open all week long with the exception of Mondays.

Soccer Competition - Autism Fundraiser
Last year saw the rejuvenation of the Easter weekend five a side soccer tournament and this proved to be a big success with both with players and supporters alike. The aim of the tournament is to raise much needed funds for two schools which are helping to enhance the standards of life for the children who attend them while providing entertainment and exercise for the people of the town and the surrounding areas. This year the tournament has moved to the soccer club's new state of the art astro-turf facility. The tournament will be held on the 2nd and 3rd of April. School of Irish Dance
Stephanie Power (Gortanumera, Portumna) is proud to open a school of Irish Dance in April 2010. Stephanie has recently qualified as an Irish Dance teacher (T.C.R.G) registered with An Coimisiun le Rince Gaelacha.
Stephanie is three times World Champion. She has toured the world with various dance productions traveling to countries such as Taiwan, Dubai and Europe. She has recently returned from Australia and America where she was touring with Dance of Desire and Mystic Force.
