An Gáirdín

Reed Beds Workshop: An Gáirdín hosted a workshop on Reed Beds on Easter Saturday, also co-inciding with International World Water Day. The day was facilitated by Ollan Herr of Herr Ltd. Reed Beds are a natural way to clean and recycle our waters and are an ideal way to deal with our domestic wastewater - 'grey water ' from showers, sinks etc and 'black water' from the sewage system. They are a fully recognised sewage treatment system. Reed Beds comprise of an area in the garden with tall grass-like plants, reeds, growing to 2 metres in height above the sand and gravel of a filter bed. The day was well attended by very eager and interested participants and no doubt but you will see some Reed Beds in the South East Galway area before too long.

Growing in Polytunnels: Saturday16th April 10.00am - 4.30pm This day will cover all aspects of tunnel growing including preparation of soil, choosing suitable varieties of plants, propagation, designing a yearly crop plan etc. The course is sponsored by National Organic Training Skill nets.
