Senior Ladies Soccer: Borrisokane travelled to Portumna to play our Senior Ladies on Wednesday at 1 pm in Marian Park. Borrisokane, playing against the wind, opened the scoring with a penalty after just two minutes of play. Portumna got the equaliser with a great shot from Sarah Conboy 10 minutes later. During the next 15 mins, both sides had some good scoring opportunities. However, Borrisokane went 2-1 up after 25 mins. Portumna, more determined than ever, got the equaliser yet again just 5 mins later with a lovely volley from Shauna Grady to make the half time score 2-2. Playing against the breeze in the 2nd half, Portumna opened the scoring this time with a fine shot from Aine O’Meara after 5 mins. Portumna really dominated the 2nd half and a lovely passing movement after 15 mins put Aine through for her 2nd goal. Portumna were never in danger after that and came out worthy winners with a 4-2 victory. This was an ideal opportunity to give all those togged out a chance to play, and they all played with fire and passion.

Na Calaí
Na Calaí receives support from the Community Foundation for Ireland: The South East Galway Traveller Family Support Programme was established in 2003 following a needs assessment of the Traveller population in the South East Galway region. The Driver Theory Test was one area of need that was highlighted for families residing in the area. The SEGTFSP ran two successful programmes in Killimor and Craughwell in 2005 and 2006 and it was intended to run such programmes again, subject to funding. The SEGTFSP planned a similar programme in July 2007 and applied for funding from the Community Foundation for Ireland, which granted the sum of €2000. The CFI is a national donor services and grants making foundation. Thanks to the funding, the SEGTFSP developed a Driver Theory Test programme in Killimor and Craughwell. Two tutors were recruited to work with the groups, which ran on Mondays and Fridays from 10.30 to 1pm in the Killimor Heritage Centre and the Craughwell Halting Site respectively for a period of 8 weeks. Eight participants took part in the training and it is hoped they will sit the test successfully in the next few weeks. For further details about the programme, please contact Régine at Na Calaí CDP at 090 9759946 or email at tfsp@nacalai.ie.

KOH
It is always nice to hear good news as it makes a slight change from what is going on around us every day. Three lads namely Eoin Pardy, Conor Kilkenny, Conor Sexton have set up a restaurant in Dublin called KOH. It is located on Jervis Street, Millennium Walkway, Dublin. The reason I mention it at all is because they have a local Flavour-Eoin Pardy is John and Teresa Pardy’s son, Conor Kilkenny is Mary and Frank Kilkenny’s son, and the odd one out is Conor Sexton who hails from Limerick. This is the first Dublin Restaurant for the three boys, who have pooled their years of experience to develop this very personal concept. From their experience in the “Diep le Shaker” group, they have finally realized their ambition to offer a friendly local venue which delivers top quality Thai/asian food at great value in plush surroundings, this has success written all over it. So if you are ever in Dublin and fancy something different give it a whirl, you will not regret the experience.
