Scouts

The Portumna Scout section had a combined camp in Portumna forest park over the May bank holiday weekend. They shared their site with Scouts from 49th Walkingstown Venture section Dublin, and two very special guests from Holland. Johan and Jos who are members of a Dutch group of scouts called “Most Primitive Scouting Experience” these guys are experts in the use of basic scouting and survival skills. The scouts were treated to a demonstration on how to light a fire using only a flint stone and some hay no matches or fire lighters for this boys. The Ventures from Dublin were most generous with their time and knowledge as they worked alongside Portumna scouts on camp gadgets such as a gateway, dresser, bench and multi flagpole. The Scouts would like to thank Kevin Donnellan of Coillte his son Michael for all their help over the weekend. The visitors were all most impressed with Portumna and the friendly welcome they received the Dutch scouts would like to thank Jim Hynes who acted as a tour guide and brought the lads around some of Portumna’s most beautiful sites for some spectacular photo opportunities.

St Dympna's Adult Day Service

There was a very positive response to St. Dympna' Adult Day Service's participation in 11.00a.m. Sunday Mass on 20th April judging by the number of cards, telephone calls and messages received from the local community. The service users' involvement in a pageant on the life of St. Patrick, their participation in the preparation of the altar, the readings, prayers of the faithful and bringing up of gifts was most inspiring. Their use of a Sign Language called Lamh to communicate the words of the hymn "Come to the Water" was indeed excellent, and a great sense of community and inclusiveness was evident during and after the Mass. Congratulations to all involved.

Portumna under 10s Camogie

Portumna's U-10's had a very enjoyable outing in Clarenbridge last Sunday. They had three teams to play in their blitz. In the first game they played Sylane. This was to be the easiest of the three games for them. In the second game they were up against a strong Turloughmore side, but were only beaten by a goal. The third match was against Mullagh and the girls came out on top. So all in all it was a good day out for them winning two of their three games. The panel are as follows: Eimear Walsh, Kara & Kirsty Donoghue, Sophie Goode, Lauren Houlihan, Chloe O'Brien, Michelle Mitchell, Anna & Roisin Kelly, Molly Fitzgerald, Sabhbh & Shauna Murray,Shauna Muldoon, Niamh Quinton, Aisling Harte, Saoirse & Roisin Starr, Lisa Greenwood, Anita Hickey, Aideen Tully. The girls are now looking forward to the Championship in June.
