The Magnificent Seven
Years ago generally the last Sunday in August or the first one in September the parish priest would announce from the alter when the Schools in the area would reopen, his words were usually met with disappointment, the summer holidays were shortly coming to an abrubt end. But those words ring hollow for one particular family the O Byrnes from Woodford (just up the road from Portumna). They could not wait for the school to reopen. The youngest Sinead in a family of 7 could not contain her excitement as she wanted to go there 1 hour before the school opened. The names are Sean 16 he is in 5yr, Katie 15 Transition Year, Cathal 13 2nd year, and Roisin 12 1st year they are attending Mercy College Woodford. The Juniors are Meabh 9 3rd class, Eimear 7 1st Class, and Sinead 4 her first day. They are attanding St Josephs National School, headmistress Breda Mannion and her staff had a busy morning. Cathal, Sean, and Roisin are talented golfers at the local golf Club Curra West, and Cathal received a runner up medal playing for Portumna Golf Club in the Connacht Junior Foresomes, as well as he won the Matchplay Competition in Curra and last Sunday won the gross prize for the men in the ladies Captains Prize. We wish parents Justin and Geraldine all the best in the future with their Magnificent 7.
