Johnny and Fergus Honoured
On the 28th of August 2008 tribute was paid to Johnny Coughlan and Fergus Madden on the occasion of their retirement as Community Mental Health Nurses from East Galway Mental Health Services. As a measure of their immense contribution to the service, eighty six years collectively, presentations were made by their colleagues in the Shannon Oaks Hotel, Portumna. Their expertise and professionalism shone out as they attended their clients throughout Gort and Portumna environs. This expertise was accompanied by a great commitment to the well being of their clients. Both men were fastidious but always pleasant in exercising their duty in their chosen field. Johnny and Fergus ploughed a lonely furrow in the field of community psychiatry when they undertook the onerous task of Community Mental Health Nursing. This was an exciting time in the history of Psychiatry, when the focus was on the treatment of people in their own homes rather than in hospital. People like Johnny and Fergus will be sadly missed from nursing, not only for the manner in which they applied themselves to their work, but also for the pleasant way in which they engaged with people in their care and colleagues alike. We wish them well in the future and thank them for all they have contributed to the health services.

Information Evening on Shannon Tourism Investment Scheme
The recently introduced Mid-Shannon Tourism Investment Scheme is a very valuable incentive for developers and investors planning to establish a range of tourism facilities in areas adjacent to the middle stretch of the River Shannon. The qualifying area stretches from east Roscommon to the shores of Lough Derg and takes in large parts of Counties Clare, Galway, Offaly, Roscommon, North Tipperary and Westmeath. Investors in facilities such as restaurants, equestrian and water sports centres, spas and a range of other tourism products can avail of accelerated capital allowances. DHKN Chartered Accountants are partnering with Failte Ireland to hold seminars which will explain to tourism operators and potential investors the benefits available from this scheme. Further advice on methods of financing investment in tourism will also be provided. One seminar will take place in the Shannon Oaks Hotel, Portumna on Thursday, 11th September at 4.30 pm. To attend the seminar or learn more about this opportunity, tel. 091-782020 or email info@dhkn.ie
