Blood Transfusion Talk
The Blood clinic will roll into Town on Wednesday 11th February from 3.00pm to 4.45pm and from 7.00pm to 9.30pm at the Shannon Oaks Hotel Portumna. As you are aware there is now greater demand for blood so it is imperative that we make the effort to attend the clinic. Last week Mr Mark O Dwyer from the Blood Transfusuion Clinic gave a lecture in Portumna Community School on the importance of blood donations, the students were very interested in the topic and asked the speaker some key questions on the importance of blood donations for donor purposes.

Valentine's Night Fundraiser
The build up to the Valentine's Ball with a "Sex and the City" theme in the Shannon Oaks Hotel certainly gathered speed in the last week. This innovative fundraiser has been organised by the local juvenile soccer club to raise money for the building of a 60m X 40m synthetic grass pitch which will be made available to all groups in the community including GAA, Camogie, Rugby and Athletics clubs and also schools. Given the very wet weather experienced here over the last few years this facility will undoubtedly be a big help to all clubs in maintaining their training schedules particularly at juvenile level. So everybody is urged to come along and support this worthwhile venture which will benefit everybody in the town. The night itself does not require formal dress and includes gifts on arrival, free cocktails, 5 course meal, complimentary wine with the meal, live music by "Raindance", disco afterwards and with Galway Bay FM's Ollie Turner as MC on the night the craic is sure to be ninety especially when it comes to guests winning spot prizes. Latest additions to the prizes are a €500 Brown Thomas voucher and Ladies Italian Designer shoes worth €250 not forgetting the Gucci and Louis Vuitton designer handbags or the 1000 ltr of home heating oil and many more. For ticket information or other details call 0863946149 or 0868167463.
