Portumna Courthouse Development Project - Questionnaire
The redevelopment of Portumna Courthouse is an exciting opportunity to restore this very prominent building in the town for economic, social and cultural use. We need your input.

Portumna & District Development Company has secured funds from Galway Rural Development Co. Ltd to research the opportunity to redevelop the Courthouse as a vibrant central flagship for cultural, community and economic purposes. Momentum Consulting and Dermot Nolan Historic Buildings Consultants have been appointed to conduct the study and are keen to capture your views on the best potential use of the building to serve the community.

A short questionnaire is available in two formats –
· A Word version which you can complete and return by email on portumnacourthouse@gmail.com or
· A PDF version which you can print out, complete and return by post or dropping into the IRD office. Copies of this questionnaire are also available throughout the town or from members of Portumna & District Development Company.

The stronger the community feedback to this research the stronger case we can make to secure funds for the redevelopment. In these more challenging times, this would be a great confidence boost for Portumna. If you are a member of an organisation, please ensure to pass this information onwards.

Deadline for submissions is 14TH AUGUST 2009.

We will present the findings in early September and look forward to hearing from you.

Portumna Scouts Ice Cream Sunday
The Portumna Scouts would like to thank everyone who supported their third annual Ice Cream Sunday, all funds raised going directly to Down Syndrome Ireland. The event would not be possible if not for the assistance from HB Ice cream who donated the Ice cream also Supervalu Portumna who supplied wafers, syrups and toppings. The work that the scouts do in preparation for this event is a credit to them and their families sweeping, cleaning and removing graffiti from the play equipment. On the day the weather thankfully behaved and the Park looked beautiful decked out with multicolored buntings With stalls selling Ice cream, face painting and this year a stall dedicated to a sport called "Speed Stacking" on lookers were amazed as John O Neill showed off his talent which requires considerable hand eye coordination "well done John". The Scouts were visited in waves during the day with Ice cream wafers sold for €2 each at the close they raised an impressive €547.42.
