Portumna Chamber Launch Tourist Brochure
The Portumna Chamber of Commerce was founded in 2008, and since then it has made an indelible mark on the Business Community of Portumna. Driven by the need to promote Portumna as both a Tourist and Business destination, to this end they set about placing goals for themselves which they had to meet, among them were - First the introduction of a Pilot parking scheme in the Town. Secondly implement a Business watch Scheme and thirdly Collective marketing ideas such as the Christmas draw. The current project that was launched last week "Lough Derg's Portumna" which includes a map of the town and highlights the businesses and amenities that Portumna has on offer. The launch took place last Friday night in the Social Hall of Portumna Retirement Village. The main speakers on the night were Muirne Goode Chamber of Commerce and John Rice MD of "Glance" publications Limerick. Muirne outlined the work involved in producing this lovely brochure from it's inception to the finished product. She thanked all the members and Committee that had any input into the brochure and hoped that it will promote their businesses and Portumna to the outside World. Mr John Rice whose Company printed the pamphlet and also distribute it around the neighbouring Counties, spoke of the excellent amenities that Portumna has on offer to the visitor and he hoped that this Brochure would help to promote the area both locally and beyond. Also launched on the night was the Chamber of Commerce website, this can be accessed on Google, just type in portumnachamber.ie. The visitor will find all relevent information that they will need when they visit the area. Congratulations to all involved with the Chamber of Commerce, you have done a tremendous amount of work in a short period.

Rugby Club News
Portumna Rugby Club recently held a very successful Golf Classic in aid of underage rugby in the surrounding areas. A tightly fought competition was won by Brendan Murray, Brian Murphy, Tristain Horey and Dermot O'Brien. They won a fantastic prize of 2 nights B&B and an evening meal in the plush Carlton Hotel & C Spa in Kinsale, the prize also included greens fees for the exclusive Old Head of Kinsale Golf Course. Even in these tight financial times, the underage rugby received tremendous support from local business and this has given them a great platform to launch the new teams. Under 8's and under 10's rugby teams are starting training for the very first time in Portumna on Sunday 20th September, with registration the week before on a evening to be announced. All eligible children from the surrounding area are welcome, but they must be at least 6 on the 1st January 2009. For more information contact Mark Scannell 087 6434230.

Shannon Bank Walk
The Adara Hillwalkers and friends walked from Victoria Lock to Portumna recently and then travelled by bus from Portumna to Meelick where a BBQ and refreshments was held. A collection taken up on the day amounted to €424.93 for the Sunflower Chernobyl appeal and all involved had a very enjoyable day out. A special thanks is extended to the proprietors of the "Shop" in Meelick - George and Paula Killeen for their hospitality and for sponsoring the refreshments and BBQ, Lily McDonagh for preparing and cooking the food, Leslie Parsons for the bus on the day and all at Adara Hillwalkers and friends thank all who joined in the walk on the day.
