Portumna Players
Sive is Coming to Town: One of Ireland's favourite plays by one of Ireland's favourite playwrights returns to the stage at Portumna Town Hall in early April. Despite being rejected by the Abbey over 40 years ago because its language was too obscure, the late John B Keane's Sive continues to thrill audiences.

This production, under Jim Hynes' direction, focuses on themes almost synonymous with other Keane plays such as The Matchmaker, The Field and Big Maggie - it is populated with matchmakers, `tinkers', hardened women, farmers and innocent young people.

The play centers around the Glavin family, a matchmaker called Thomaseen Sean Rua, two wandering tinkers of the road, a boyfriend called Liam Scuab and the age old farmer who wishes to marry her for her youth. Money and greed play a big hand in the proceedings.

The Mai: The Players are staging the Mai ( Christmas Production) in Birr on Saturday 13th February at the Oxmanton Town Hall starting at 8pm.
