Lights Camera Action!
Irene Hegarty, daughter of Ronnie and Collette Hegarty, always wanted to act from an early age. She attended speech and Drama as a child and was in the 2001 Portumna Community School Musical "Calamity Jane" where she played the lead role. Irene also worked with the Portumna Players over a number of years during which time she took part in Lennox Robinsons "Drama at Inish" and J B Keanes classic "The Year of the Hiker". She has a wonderful voice and her diction is perfect - every word clear and precise. Irene is doing an acting course in Galway Community College at the present time. Last week she appeared in "An Evening of Moliere". He (Moliere) was a French Dramatist and may be seen as the possible French equivalent to the English playwrite Shakespere. Irene appeared in Moliere's play "Sganarelle" as his wife fully decked out in costumes of the period, which incidentally she made herself. Irene hopes to continue her acting studies next year. We wish Irene well in her career.

New Trad Band
The band 'Tradstone' was formed from a casual session that took place every Monday night in An Caislean Portumna during the summer of 2010. We have recorded our debut 3-track ep in La Hip studios, and Aiden Foley handled a lot of the postproduction at masterlabs.net. The band members are Danny Maher, Jonathan Fahy, Noreen Ryan, and Anthony Slevin. This is an Up Beat Trad band with an utterly danceable quality. Single release tour 3rd to 6th of March 2011.

Abú Media (David Keane) Success
Abú Media recently won the IFTA award for Special Irish Language. It was for the series 1916:Seachtar Na Cásca, the series made about the seven signatories to the 1916 Proclamation.

The series was filmed partly in Portumna - in the castle and in the church. They also filmed parts of it in different places all over Ireland, in the old St Brigid's hospital at Ballinasloe and in Kilmainham Jail where they recreated the scenes of the seven signatories being executed.

The series was broadcast by TG4 and was produced by Abú Media. The producers were Pierce Boyce, Eileen Seoighe and Bríd Seoighe. David Keane wrote and directed the series.

At the moment David is currently working on two different scripts that he hopes to film later this year, one of which is about the Irish actor Micheál MacLiammóir.
