He will also give a talk on how to create and maintain a Facebook Page for a business, organisation, or community group.

The event is free and open to all - come along whether you are new to all this, just want to ask some questions, or want any kind of information about social media marketing. Also, feel free to bring a laptop and get yourself listed right away.

For further information, you can contact Mark on info@adesignforlife.net or 087 3689507.

Portumna Thinking Caps - Round 2
Following a very interesting and energetic meeting of "Portumna Thinking Caps", we are now going to hold a second meeting, so that people can give feedback on the last meeting, see where to go from here, and new participants can bring and voice their ideas and opinions.

It would be great as well if everyone that is willing to come to a second meeting could try their best to encourage one other person (or more - but we'll start small) along as well. These kinds of initiatives really do need strong people willing to work but also the involvement of a lot of others willing to support.

If you're interested in coming to a second meeting, we have booked the Shannon Oaks Hotel for next Wednesday evening at about 8:15 or so. The meeting will take place after a 7:30 presentation on how to add your company/group to Google Maps and set up a Facebook Page. Perhaps some of you will come to both parts.

Harmony in Portumna
The Galway Gospel Choir whose mission is to bring together people of different ages and cultures from Galway city and its environs, through the medium of novel music and to allow people the opportunity to express themselves creatively in a warm and welcoming environment. On Friday last, this choir brought joy and smiles to the faces of the audience at the lovely concert they brought to Portumna. From classic gospel pieces like Kumbaya to the Beatles "Blackbird", the group sang 8 part harmonies with attractive arrangements of well-known gospel music. Coupled with their vibrant rhythms and obvious enjoyment in their singing, it was an uplifting event for all.

Our own OMNA, Portumna's Vocal Group sang two gentle numbers to start the evening under the baton of Marie Power. Portumna Arts Group would like to thank Marie and all of Omna and Richie, Michel and all the Galway Gospel Choir for their generous time and wonderful music. Also, a big thank you to Fr B Lawless for use of St Brigid's Church and a special thank you to Anna Callanan, Portumna Social Services who provided the Day Care Centre for the choir's preparation and for refreshments offered. A donation from the event will be presented to the Day Care Centre.

The Thrill of Writing
Portumna hosted a reading from three of Ireland's prolific contemporary writers as part of the Irish Writers' Centre's Peregrine readings. Kevin Barry read from his new book "The City of Bohane" and from one of his short stories in "There are Little Kingdoms". John treated the audience to the opening chapter from a future novel, yet to be titled. He also spoke on the differences in writing within the genre- highlighting the contrast in American and English crime writing; the variations in the way men and women write about violence; and the importance of landscape in the writing of crime novels.

Alex Barclay read a short story set in the town of Sable Forge from The Big Book of Hope. A lively discussion on reading, writing, themes, violence and literature followed. Books were signed, autographs gathered and Portumna was all the richer for the visit of these writers. Portumna Arts Group, who facilitated the evening extend their thanks to Jack Harte of the Irish Writers Centre; Karl Reinhart of the Shannon Oaks Hotel and to all who attended.
