Shorelines Arts Festival's "Ripples" Art Project
Over the coming week, Shorelines Arts Festival's "Ripples" Art Project Invitations will be distributed to voluntary groups in the area. This is a follow on from last year's successful Canvas Project that featured a piece of art work from almost 50 groups in the area. This year, the group is invited to decorate an A4 page reflecting the theme and their group. This can be a collage, a photograph, a painting, a drawing, piece of writing or an innovative art piece. All the A4 pages will be presented in a prepared Shorelines Mount and exhibited in Portumna's VEC where Shorelines Festival will host the Art Exhibition once again this year from Sept 20-23rd. The theme "Ripples" comes from the following quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson, and each group is asked to artistically work on their individual "type of influence". More information on the project can be obtained by calling 087 2931055. "Throw a stone into a stream and the ripples that propagate themselves are the beautiful type of influence" Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Portumna Tidy Towns
The planters have been replanted, the flower beds have been wed and the hanging baskets for Brendan Street are on the way. Summer is here, so regardless of the weather, every extra little bit, that each of us do will make such a difference to our lovely town. Pull that weed or pick that piece of litter as you are out for your daily walk. Take time to water any flowers near where you live and get involved in keeping the community looking well. Feel free to get involved. A group of volunteers meet on Saturday mornings, 8.00am at the square.

The current group of volunteers that have been working with the Tidy Towns project for the past 5 years are at the end of their tenure and would love to hand this progressive project over to interested members of the community. If you would like to become involved, please contact Mike Goode or any member of the group.
