Portumna Town FC 5-a-Side Soccer Tournament
On Monday and Tuesday the 18th & 19th of June Portumna Town FC held their annual National Schools five a side soccer tournament. On Monday the competition was for the 3rd and 4th class boys and girls teams. With twelve teams taking part in the tournament and despite the inclement weather it was a hard fought competition with the final being played out between Lorrha and Killimor. Lorrha eventually triumphed by two goals to one in a very competitive and spirited final. This is Lorrha's second win in the junior tournament.

On Tuesday it was the turn of the 5th & 6th class boys and girls teams and again there were twelve teams in the competition. The sun shone on the day and again all the matches were played with great spirit with some hard fought battles in the group and knock out stages. The final was played out between Gortanumera (Last year's winners) and Portumna. Gortanumera fought hard but Portumna were the eventual winners by four goals to two.

The competition would not have been possible without the help of the Peig Lynch, Ann Marie Barry and Maggie Sullivan who provided the refreshments on both days and Donnie O Meara who provided the Marque. A special thanks to the Portumna Branch of the Red Cross who were on hand on both days and Dave Flaherty for organising the tournament. The club would also like to express our thanks to the competition sponsors Pat Claffey, Kieran Curran and Storm Ireland.
