Portumna Camogie Club will hold their AGM on Thursday 24th January at 8pm in the GAA Clubhouse. All welcome.


Portumna Players - Open Auditions
Portumna Players Drama Group are holding Open Auditions for its next production The Plough and the Stars by Sean O'Casey on Wednesday 23rd January at 8pm in the Loft, Portumna Town Hall. Help with backstage crew/sets/front of house also needed. All welcome!

AGM: The Portumna G.A.A. Club held their Annual General Meeting on January 13th. The chairman Damien Coleman in his address reflected on the year gone by. He congratulated our minor and u21 managements and panels on their county titles successes and he said their are some young players coming through which augurs well for the future of the club. Damien congratulated Andy Smith, Joe Canning and Damien Hayes on their Leinster title success and on their run up to the All Ireland final and he congratulated Damien and Joe on their all Star selection. He said they were great ambassadors for the club. He congratulated all the players from the club who made the different county panels and he wished them all the best for 2013. Finally he thanked all sponsors who had helped out the club during the year in particular our main sponsor Al Hayes of Al Hayes Motors.

Secretary Fiona O Meara presented a detailed report of the clubs activites on and off the field throughout the year. She thanked everyone who helped out in the running of the club over the course of the year and particular she outlined the development of 500 lux lighting the club were undertaking at the moment. She outlined in her report that the club had adopted a five year plan which she hoped would outline areas for the club to work on and improve over the next five years and she thanked everyone who was involved with the plan and hope to launch the plan to members in the coming weeks.

Celia Keane presented a very detailed treasurers report and she paid thanks to everyone who supported the club financially over the course of the year.

Support Team Cian
Team Cian is a committee and fund set up in Portumna to support Cian Connolly. Cian is the four year old son of Ciaran (Syd) and Edel (Empire Hair Salon) He is currently undergoing treatment at Crumlin Hospital for Sick Children in Dublin. March 17th – Celebrate Paddys Night in style by Swinging from the rafters with Hot Fuss and DJ Gavo at our rootin tootin Barn Dance with BBQ in our 80ft Marquee (aka The Barn!) at the Ferry Inn. April 1st – Work off your easter eggs and join us on the Easter Monday Bank Holiday for a 10km Forest Run for the fast people including a Fun 5km Run/walk for the not so fast people! May 5th – Bank Holiday Sunday. 130km Lough Derg Cycle for the cycling buffs amongst you or indeed anyone looking for a challenge for the New Year! A marshalled event including full mechanical and medical back up on the day. Registration Fee includes souvenir T-shirt, map of the Lake and Refreshments. On the night cyclists and Everyone are invited to round the Night off with a lively BBQ in the Boathouse for a fun warm down!! Sinead Keon - World Dwarf Games
Sinead Keon is going to the World Dwarf Games in Michigan, USA in August this year. We are fundraising for her trip and will be holding a fundraising night in Elsies, Woodford on Saturday 23rd February. Raffle tickets are available to buy now: contact 086 0583170. All monies raised will go towards the cost of the trip and the remainder to Irish Wheelchair Association Sports.


Sign Out Youth Project
Opening Hours: Wednesday, 1st years 7.00pm – 8.30pm. Thursday, 2nd and 3rd years 7.30pm – 9.00pm. Friday, T.Y's, 5th and 6th years 7.30pm – 10pm.

To maintain our high standards of caring and safety for all the young people attending Sign Out Youth Project, it is essential that parents/ guardians, supervise with our leaders on a rota basis. It is also of the upmost importance that any young people on medication ( e.g., inhalers, etc.), have their medication with them at all times on the Youth Café grounds.

Our Place Rocks: Finally, the committee and staff of Sign Out Youth Project would like to congratulate local band, Fault In The System (F.I.T.S.) on reaching the Connaught/Ulster final of The All Ireland Schools Got Talent competition, to be held in The Royal Theatre, Castlebar on Sunday 27th January 2013. F.I.T.S. do all their rehearsing in Sign Out, under the watchful eye of supervisor Tony Hogan. At Sign Out Sessions (S.O.S.), every Saturday from 1.00pm to 4.00pm."As we have 18-20 young people attending S.O.S. every Saturday, it is absolutely fantastic to see our young musicians advancing at such a great pace. I feel so proud and honoured to be associated with these marvellous young musicians, and to be able to give back some experience and knowledge of my many years in the music industry," said Tony. St. Brigid's Day at An Gairdin
Lá Fhéile Bríde at An Gáirdín, Portumna. 31st January 7.30pm. We have a long rich tradition and heritage associated with Brigid and with Brigid's Day. Brigid is patron of poets, crafts and healing. She also has strong connections with the land and animals and her wells dotted around the country are places of healing. Brigid also heralds the oncoming of spring after the dark winter. So it is a time to celebrate. Come along to celebrate with story, song, and weaving of crosses etc. If there are sturdy rushes in your surroundings bring them along also!

Computer Courses
Part time practical computer courses will begin on Tuesday, 5th February at the IRD Centre, Portumna. The Beginners Course, which is intended for absolute beginners, will take place from 5.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. Course content will include Internet, email and Skype. The Intermediate Course will take place from 7.30 p.m.to 9.30 p.m. The content of this course will include Internet, email, Skype, Word Processing and Spreadsheets. Training takes place in a relaxed, friendly environment, with learners progressing at their own pace.
