Together with two other women writers, Margaret will be appearing on Saturday 2nd in Glor, from 9.30 till 11.30am. The theme of her talk will be oral history, and she will be illustrating it with readings from her book Irish Days, in which she interviewed over a dozen people over the age of 80. Among those whose memories she captured were the late Eamon Kelly, the well-loved actor and seanchie, and a number of people from around the Portumna and Woodford areas, including Tommy Hanley, Michael-Joe Tarpey, Austin O'Toole and Eddie Mulivihill.

In addition, both Margaret and Noelle Lynskey will be reading later that same day in a tribute to the late Dennis O'Driscoll, the distinguished poet and member of Aosdana, whose death at Christmas came as a shock to all of his many admirers. East Galway Youth Theatre - Portumna Workshops
Fiona Keane and Daniel Cronin established East Galway Youth Theatre in September 2012. Workshops for 14 to 18 yr olds take place on Sunday evenings in Loughrea and a new time of Sunday afternoons in Portumna. The aim of East Galway Youth Theatre is to provide opportunities to the youth of East Galway for creative and personal development through drama and most importantly to have a whole lot of fun while doing it!!

"We aim to provide a safe environment in which young people can express themselves without the fear of repercussions or difficulties of peer pressure." says Fiona who has a Licentiate Diploma from the Leinster School of Music & Drama. "We want to increase opportunities for self-development of young people by using drama methods which respond to the developmental needs of all the participants."

Daniel who has an MA in directing says "East Galway Youth Theatre run drama workshops and productions which allow young people engage in and learn about every aspect of theatre from acting to stage management."

Daniel & Fiona, the artistic co-directors, strive to enable all young people to participate in youth theatre regardless of their class, backgrounds, colour, race, sexuality or economic situation. The two groups from Loughrea and Portumna joined forces recently and travelled to see "A Crucial Week in the Life of a Grocer's Assistant" by Acorn Theatre Company in Ballinasloe. This was the first of what is hoped will be many theatre outings.

A limited number of places are still available in the Portumna branch. For information, contact 087 6063253, or e-mail eastgalwayyouththeatre@gmail.com or you can follow us on facebook.
