Daffidol Day
Many thanks to all who supported the Daffodil Day fund raising in Portumna and Killimor. While we know the weather was not in our favour, nevertheless, we did good and the volunteer collectors would like to thank all who supported them. A big thank you to Donie O'Meara and Supervalu, Aldi, our local Post Office (Sinead and Emer), Ladies Day and Kennys. We collected over €2,500-00 and for those of you who didn't brave the elements that day, there are still collections boxes in Portumna Post Office, Ladies Day and Kennys for another week. Nationwide, contributions are down over 50% due to the bad weather on that day and as this is a very worthy cause, every donation, no matter how small, is very much appreciated. You can also donate online at irishcancersociety.ie

Team Cian
On Easter Monday the sun was shining in Portumna and the community came out in force to support our Team Cian Walk/Run for brave little Cian Connolly. Everyone turned up with their runners and smiles on! It was an impressive sight to see so many people at the start line in front of the majestic Portumna Castle. Seasoned runners shared the course with everyone from first time mothers pushing junior Team Cian supporters in pushchairs to grandparents leading from the front. Laughter and chat rang out through our beautiful Portumna Forest Park as people made their way around the course and were welcomed home at the finish line by the Easter Bunny! Syd Connolly, Cian's father, joined us on the day to start the race and to present the prizes to our worthy winners. An emotional Syd thanked everyone for the overwhelming support that he, Edel, Colin and little Cian are receiving from everyone. The day was rounded off by a lively performance from the brilliant Tradstone as weary feet went home for a well deserved rest! Team Cian wishes to thank everyone who helped to make the day such a success.

Ireland Reaching Out
Parish volunteer leaders from all over Ireland gathered in Athlone this weekend for the first ever national training event. This was a milestone event for the fast-growing nationwide Irish Diaspora Programme. The training event assisted over 70 volunteer leaders to develop their awareness of the programme in terms of local dissemination of information and knowledge about the programme, and also learned more about the programme's developing online tools and resources. The Ireland XO programme has grown from a pilot project in South-East Galway in 2010 to a nationwide organization of 2,000 volunteers north and south as of March 2013.

Last month, An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD praised the Ireland XO initiative on achieving programme coverage across all 32 Counties: stating "I am pleased to congratulate the Ireland XO organisation and its volunteers on achieving such a big milestone within a year of their national launch. The expansion of the programme is evidence that it is offering the Irish Diaspora a chance to engage in a way that is really valuable to them. Like the Gathering 2013 initiative, Ireland XO is a great opportunity to reach out to the Irish Diaspora around the world, allow them to reconnect with their heritage and tap into the potential it represents for local communities around Ireland."

Ireland Reaching Out founder and Chairman Mike Feerick stated that "achieving national coverage of Ireland XO is a magnificent milestone for the programme, and while we still have a distance to go to have coverage in every single parish in Ireland, credit must go to the Ireland XO HQ team, the programme's sponsors, and its' thousands of volunteers in parishes across Ireland to have made such rapid progress in building what will be a key network and infrastructure for local Ireland in the years ahead."

The day's event was rounded off by guest speaker, by Tim O'Connor, Chairman of the Gathering 2013 initiative.
