Strictly Come Dancing
Davitt's Camogie Club's Strictly Come Dancing fundraiser was a sell out success in the Shearwater Hotel, Ballinasloe on Saturday, November 2nd. Sixteen couples began training under choreographer Lorraine Wynne from Tullamore on September 21st. They started off the night with their Group Dance and were followed by an exhibition of Irish dancing by Colm Conneely of Trad on the Prom and several dancers from the Hession School. They were a joy to watch and got night off to a brilliant start.

Two dancers from the Midlands Dance School gave an exhibition of modern interpretative dance before the competition opened with the first couple. There was a variety of Dance styles, Quick Step, Disco, Fast Waltz, Bollywood and Jive and all were well executed and entertaining. MC on the night was Galway Bay FM's Sean Walshe and the judges, Cyril Farrell, Michael Ryan, Gerry Larkin and Ger O'Byrne really added to the occasion with their banter and extensive knowledge of dance technique.

Winners on the night were Caroline Pierce of Abbey and Jody Gardiner of Barratour who take home the coveted trophies. The Davitt's committee are indebted to all 32 dancers and their families, to the sponsors, the helpers, to those who attended on the night and especially the members who sold tickets. Already there is great anticipation about the DVD of the night which will be for sale in about five weeks.

Calendar of Events
One of the initiatives currently being organised by the Task Force is a Calendar of Events for Portumna 2014. The concept behind this is to market events that are happening in Portumna and surrounding area and in return bring more people to the Portumna.

Anne Rabbitte explained the more awareness that can be created about this area of East Galway can only be good for the community and business people. Anne explained this information will be put on website links associated with Portumna and on the Failte Ireland Web site at no cost to the groups. The plan would be to have detailed calendar starting with events over the St Patricks weekend and finishing with the Christmas Concert.
