The Producers
Those who like musical comedy are in for a treat in two weeks, as Mel Brooks hilarious Broadway hit The Producers is due to run in the Town Hall Theatre in Galway from 4th -8th March. The show tells the story of two crooked producers who stage a musical called Springtime for Hitler in the hope that it will be a flop and they can pocket the money raised. The show turns out to be a hit. Portumna resident Declan Kelly plays the part of Franz Liebkind, a crazy singing and dancing Nazi hiding in New York with his pet pigeons. Declan was nominated for the Best Actor award by the Amateur Irish Musicals Society for his role as Fagin in Loughrea`s 2009 production of Oliver. Those hoping to see the show are advised that it has almost sold out.

St. Patricks Day Parade
Due to the fact that the Portumna senior hurlers will be contesting the All Ireland Club final in Croke Park on Saint Patrick’s Day the parade in Portumna will now take place on Sunday 23rd March. The parade will leave from the Mart at 12.30 and follow the usual route along Domnick St, up Clonfert Ave past the reviewing stand on the Main street. The committee would like to see as many individuals, business, voluntary and sporting organizations taking part, lets make this years parade one of the best and biggest seen in the town. Further details from Kathleen O Brien, Noelle Lynskey or Walter Burke. Best of luck to our hurlers, hopefully we will have the Tommy Moore cup as guest of honour at our parade.
