Bachelor of Portumna
Portumna Rugby Club hosted The Bachelor of Portumna 2014 in a packed Arch Bar on Saturday night last. The venue itself was superb and Portumna have badly missed a space like this since the Shannon Oaks Hotel fire a few Years ago. The host on the night was the excellent Michael Brady who cajoled, coaxed and generally drew the very best out of the 10 entrants and what a magnificent batch of bachelors they were.

The night was full of craic and quality entertainment with dancing of various sorts from Charlie Hague, Jimmy Dunne, Mike Madden and Paul Fahy. Eugene McEntee somehow managed to make turning a tea towel in a chicken hugely entertaining. James Heenan delivered an excellent stand up routine, Jonny Keane tried to keep up with Breakfast Roll song and DJ Gavin O’Toole glued the show together throughout the night as well as performing. But undoubtedly the two main highlights were Niall Finnerty’s performance, which crossed Baywatch with a Mylie Cyrus-esque twerking performance that had the crowd in tears of laughter and the last bachelor of the night was Paddy Dolphin who did a great job entertaining the crowd during his interview, but then had them on their feet when he finished it off with his very own Riverdance routine, it was as inspired as it was hilarious. This proved to be the biggest vote getter too as Paddy Dolphin was crowned the Champion for 2014. The reigning champion Patsy Fogarty, who also did a marvellous job both opening and closing the show with great fun and energy, presented him with his Crown and sash.

All in all, this was an excellent nights entertainment and a badly needed bit of fun. Huge congratulations to all involved.
