Europe Day in Scoil Mhuire Gortanumera
Europe Day in Scoil Mhuire Gortanumera was the culmination of the students hard work. They embraced the Blue Star project with enthusiasm and interest and this was highlighted last Friday. The teachers and students were delighted to have Paul Connaughton T.D. there last Friday to celebrate Europe Day and show him all the work the students have done to make the day so special.

The aim of the project was that the students would foster a better understanding and knowledge of the European Union and how it affects the lives of Irish citizens. By undertaking various classroom projects and activities such as learning about the background to the formation of the E.U. they achived their aim. The students began their journey with events leading up to WW11., through to the Treaty of Rome and right up to the present day with Croatia being the EU’s newest member. The Blue Star Programme also introduced the students to the EU; what it means and how it works. The students looked at the culture, traditions and works. We looked at the culture, traditions and arts of the various countries and have found the project really enjoyable and interesting to do.
