Winner of the Galway County Council and Galway Theatre Festival Touring Award 2013, Blackbird stars Emma O’Grady and Ian Watt and is directed by Mark Westbrook.

In Blackbird two characters with a troubled past are reunited for a tense hour-long confrontation. Audiences are gripped by their struggle between reconciliation and revenge - it is a powerful drama that never lets go.

Anne Rabbittte
We were fortunate to receive a flying visit from Micheal Martin last Monday to endorse Anne Rabbittte's campaign to be the local voice for change. Rabbitte left no stone unturned in her opening speech as she highlighted issues ranging from the desperate need for services such as a public health center, the toilets being opened and maintained in both the marina and the swimming area, the trees being cut on the road to the Shannon and the struggle of local business’s to stay afloat in these difficult times. She also highlighted all the positive aspects of Portumna, of which there are many, drawing Mr. Martin's attention to the huge potential Portumna has for the future with the voice to represent this area.

When Mr. Martin addressed the gathering of supporters in O'Meara restaurant he remarked at how fortunate Portumna and the surrounding area is to have a candidate such as Rabbitte who not only understands the needs of the community but who has the drive and the determination to make the changes needed for a successful future. He also complimented the up and coming businesses in Portumna, such as The Engine Room and Podumna, that show growth and enterprise is possible even in difficult times.

Sean Canning was there to show his support for Rabbitte and to present Mr. Martin with a special hurley by Canning Hurleys in his native Cork colours. Canning said that the 23rd was important day for everybody to get out and get Anne elected.

'Handshake for Europe'. They did this as part of the Blue Star Programme. The aim of this programme is to foster better understanding and knowledge of the EU and how it affects our lives through classroom projects and activities. The 'Handshake for Europe' acknowledges the solidarity and diversity that exists between us all as EU citizens. It symbolises the day that then French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman extended the hand of friendship to old enemy Germany, to put war behind them and to forge a peaceful continent. That was 9 May 1950, which to this day is celebrated as Europe Day.
