Local Area Plan
Galway County Council are now in the process of preparing a new Local Area Plan for Portumna. This Plan will replace the existing plan which has been in operation for over eight years. Councillor Jimmy Mc Clearn said this plan will be influenced by both European and Irish legislation that has come in to force in recent years and will have an impact on some of the existing zoning.

A document has been prepared by the Council and is available for viewing at the local Council Office and also in the Town Library. Councillor Mc Clearn continued that it is important that all organisations and individuals that might be effected by this plan or have an interest in the future development of Portumna take the time to study what is being proposed and make submissions to The Forward Planning Section, Galway County Council, Prospect Hill, Galway before the 4th July 2014.
