Shorelines Arts Festival
"Arts festivals enliven, enrich and add colour to a local community, they are significantly important to the development of arts audiences, and the creation of greater local access to cultural experience, and they attract visitors and boost local economies." (Irish Times).

Final touches are almost in place for an exciting Shorelines Arts Festival, September 18th-21st. With a programme as varied as ever it promises an exciting and energetic feast of arts. Highlights like pianist Finghin Collins playing Chopin in Portumna Castle and providing Masterclasses as well as concerts from singer, Eleanor McEvoy and super band, We Banjo 3, all our toes will be tapping and faces smiling.

Your support as sponsor or friend enables the committee to maintain the Festival as an important local event. Lorrha Lughnasa Festival
Lorrha Lughnasa Festival is taking place on Sunday 3rd August in Lorrha Village. Starting at 2p.m., lots to keep family entertained with market and bric-a-brac. This is an ideal way to sell your wares or crafts or simply de-clutter your attic. Tables are €10. The GSPCA are holding a dog show with the following categories: Best Large breed, best small breed, best rescue dog, best dog owner and fancy dress, best sausage catcher, waggiest tail, child's best friend (12 years and under) and best over-all. There is also a kid's fun day (Puc Fada and other hurling skills), face painting, Kid's treasure hunt and duck race. A great variety of music in store for you in Maher's; with Origin, Corroboree, Simon Ryan & Friends taken the stage. Prizes for best-dressed Medieval costume that night. Maria Kearney - Doctor of Philosophy
Maria Kearney, daughter of Christine Nevin, Portumna, graduated as a Doctor of Philosophy from Cardiff Metropolitan University. Her thesis was entitled: The use of the left ventricular deformation and arterial wave reflections in the identification of sub-clinical cardiovascular dysfunction in patients at increased risk of heart failure.


Marc Roberts and Yvonne Fahy - 'Wild Atlantic Way'
Marc Roberts has just written a brand new song with Yvonne Fahy called 'Wild Atlantic Way'. The song is a celebration of our stunning coastline here in Ireland. It features Yvonne & 'Trad on the Prom'. It was released on Wednesday 16th July & went straight in at number one in the iTunes singles charts! Yvonne is a multi instrumentalist in Trad on the Prom. She had great success at Christmas when her composed single "The One for Me" reached no.2 in the country charts.


Portumna Lotto
There was no winner of last week-ends lotto jackpot worth 20,000 euros. The numbers drawn were 12 19 21 27. Three people matched three numbers Sandra Larkin, Vincent Sellars snr & Tom Mack.


Portumna & Area Tourist Information Office
The Portumna & Area Tourist Information Office is now open at the Workhouse. Visitors can avail of internet access with printing facility and wifi. The tourist office is open 7 days a week from 9.30 a.m. to

Children’s Art Camp
Children’s Art Camp from Tues 5th Aug to Sat 9th Aug, 2014 from 2.15 p.m – 5.15 p.m. Suitable for 5-12 year olds. In Old School House, Tynagh. Places limited. Cost €55 per child. Activities include:- Painting, design your own T-shirt, braclet making with club/county colours, pottery, bottle painting, hat making, arts & crafts and much more! Family Discounts available.


Helena Fogarty - Masters Degree
Helena graduated from N.U.I.G with a Masters in Social Work, her other qualifications are: Diploma in Social Care from N.U.I.G and also had studied in Waterford Institute of Technology for the Ordinary Degree in Applied Social Studies in Social Care with a follow on in obtaining the Honours Degree in Applied Social Studies in Social Care from Athlone Institute of Technology. Finally obtaining the Masters in Social Work in N.U.I.G. Working with the H.S.E for over a decade she is based in Limerick in the Child and Family Agency (TUSLA). We wish her all the best and well done.


Bingo in Portumna Town Hall
Bingo is on in the Town Hall Portumna every Saturday at 8.00pm and this weeks jackpot is €6350 in 45 numbers or less. A raffle every night with great prizes up for grabs.


Killimor GAA
Last week’s lotto numbers were 10, 22, 28  and 29. The jackpot was €6,900. Last week’s 5 lucky dip winners (€20) were Grace Duffy, Damian & Mary Gibbons, Jason Broderick, Michael Whyte and Nuala Hoary. Next week's jackpot is €7,000 which will be held in Duffy’s.


Sign-Out Sports Day
Sign out are hosting an annual sports day, camanabu tournament and family fun day! Local businesses have entered the tournament. There will be loads of games for kids and teenagers, soccer, table tennis, pool, air hockey and lots more. There will also be a BBQ and car boot sale on the day. Music by the talented Knoeleen Keane, Noreen Ryan and friends also dj sparky will be there to keep us all entertained. A great day out for all the family!
