Lorrha Variety Group Present 'Mother Knows Best'
Mother Knows Best, written by Westmeath native Jimmy Keary, is an hilarious comedy play and is sure to entertain audiences when Lorrha Variety Group perform it onstage on Friday 5th, Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th of December in Lorrha Hall.
Tess McDermott (Rose Harding) is hell bent on matching her daughter Suzanne, played by Tara Talbot, with a good prospect, financial consultant Adrian Bird (Mark Houlihan). Unfortunately Suzanne cannot stand Adrian and is rekindling an old flame with painter Nick Cassidy, ably played by newcomer George Harding, whom her mother considers too "common". Tess is distraught when her long-suffering husband, Harry played by Andrew Dagg, loses her beloved dog and is furious that Suzanne is still going out with Nick, however when her dog is returned by Nicks ex-girlfriend, Dinah Dolan (Ber Daly), Tess hatches a devious plan to split them up. Tess is so focused on her plans that she fails to notice that her husband is being seduced by her lonely golfing partner Dulcie Cotter (Diane Dagg). When Nick's employee, painter Joe Galligan played by Tim Reddan, falls on hard times he plans a robbery with disastrous results and Tess's plan fall entirely to pieces. Watch out for appearances by Nick's mother Dolly played by Carmel Slevin and her side-kick Sadie Jessop, played by newcomer Barbara Tierney who will have audiences rolling in the aisles with their antics.
The cast and crew have been rehearsing hard over the past few months under the directorship of Phil Quigley and look forward to welcoming you to their 2014 production.
