Progressive 25 - Galway Parkinsons Assocation Fundraiser
There will be a Monster 25 'Pairs' Card Game in aid of the Galway Parkinson's Association this Friday 19 December in the comfortable surroundings of Tynagh Old Schoolhouse. It starts at 8.30 pm sharp and there are prizes galore and refreshments will be served. All card players are invited to support a worthy cause and enjoy the festive atmosphere.

Portumna Christmas Concert
All roads will lead to St Brigid's Church, Portumna this Sunday evening at 7.00pm for this year's Annual Christmas Concert. The very best singers and musicians from the area are ready to entertain you for the evening. The Omna Singers and St Brigid's Church Choir will perform your favourite Christmas carols. Portumna native singer/songwriter Joe Casey will perform some of his own songs, while local soloists Conor O'Meara, Marion Lynch, Caitriona Eames, Pascal Kennedy and Nicola Walsh will amaze you.
A super group of local musicians including Frank Downey, Ger Fahy, Aoibhinn & Muirne Goode and Brendan Hayes have formed for one night only to share their internationally acclaimed musical gift with us and will be joined by junior carollers.
A group of 15 young trad musicians, literally from 'the Five Parishes', will perform a session of your favourite irish airs. The Junior Scout Choir will endear you with their charming rendition of seasonal favourites.
Tickets are on sale in advance at the very reasonable price of €5 per person and can be purchased daily at Ladies Day boutique, Portumna Post Office and on this Saturday at O'Meara's Supervalu, Portumna. Organised by 10th Galway Portumna Scout Group, the concert is the perfect start to the Christmas Season. So, get your ticket now and be part of this event where the community comes together to welcome the Christmas Spirit.


Christmas Tea Dance
A Christmas Tea Dance will be held in Shragh Community Centre, Shragh, Woodford on Sunday 28th December from 3pm – 6pm. Dancing to ‘Midnight Melodies’. So put on your dancing shoes and enjoy a great afternoon of music, song and dance during the Festive Season. Admission only €6 includes Tea, Coffee and delicious Home Baking. There will also be a Raffle and lots of spot prizes on the day. All are welcome.


Calendar - East Galway Family History Society
The East Galway Family History Society successfully launched their fourth annual calendar on the 5th December 2014 in the Woodford Youth Hall which was attended by representatives from the parishes of east Galway. The theme for the 2015 calendar incorporates country life east Galway, 20th century. Brian Keary, Chairperson of the East Galway Family History Society who addressed the gathering thanked all the communities for their support, particularly the donors of the photographs and the musicians present. Those present enjoyed a night of music, singing and light refreshments.
The calendar features photographs from parishes including Abbey, Aughrim, Ballinasloe, Cappataggle, Clonfert, Eyrecourt, Loughrea, Killeenadeema, Killimor, Mountbellew Vintage Club and Woodford. The calendars are for sale in shops in east Galway and at the Woodford Heritage Centre.

Galway Kettlebell Club
Galway Kettlebell Club took 8 medals at the Munster Kettlebell Championships at the Delta Dome in Limerick on Saturday 6th December. Coached by Sarah Smith 14 club members from Galway competed on the day.
The club had enjoyed international and national success in 2014 with Sarah Smith achieving a gold and silver medal with 24kg for the Irish Female Long Cycle team in professional division in St Petersburg Russia at the European Championships in May and Celine King achieving gold in 16kg in Hamburg at the World Championships in November. 114 athletes from 20 clubs around Ireland competed at the final AIKLF (All Ireland Kettlebell Lifting Federation)competition of 2014.
The club are busy training for places on the Irish Team at the National Championships to be held in Meath in February 2015. After being ranked 7th in the World at the World Championships in Hamburg in November Ireland won the bid to host the World Championships in Dublin end of November 2015.


Redwood National School Variety Show
The children of Redwood N.S. present their annual Christmas variety show on Wednesday, 17th Dec at 7 p.m in Redwood Church. They will perform the play "Whoops-a-daisy angel!" along with a wonderful display of Irish music and dance including songs from the children's performance in the hallelujah Young voices Choir Refreshments and raffle in the school afterwards.

First Aid Certificates
On Monday 9 December thirty-four students from Portumna Community School received their certificates in Practical First Aid. They also had a number of medals awarded and 30+ letters of assessment for child minding. A large number of the students coincided this with the end of their transition year Gaisce award. Well done all.

Killimor GAA
Last week’s lotto numbers were 5, 17, 19, and 27. The jackpot was €8,900. Last week’s 5 lucky dip winners (€20) were Simon Treacy, Tom Cormican, PJ McGann, Colin McClearn and Gerry Donnellan. Next week's jackpot is €9,000 which will be held in Duffy’s.
The club will be launching its inaugural newsletter (free of charge) this weekend. It will be available in the local shops.
The club wishes all its patrons, members and sponsors a very happy Christmas.
