Abbey 10K Road Race
The 3rd annual Abbey 10 KM AAI approved road race takes place in Abbey at 1.00 PM on Sunday 15 March. As usual we are expecting a big entry. Walkers and joggers are most welcome. Walkers will take off at 12.30PM. This year we are introducing a race for under age athletes. Entries for this race can be done on line by registering on www.runireland.com. There will be plenty of prizes for all categories as usual. Let’s get the runners on and begin training for this very popular local event. Further details will appear later.


Portumna GAA
There was no winner of last weekend's lotto jackpot worth 4400 euros. The numbers drawn were 6, 9, 16, 23. Two people matched three numbers - Pat Madden and Anna Fahy.
Portumna G.A.A club wish to advertise the position of senior hurling manager for 2015. Please forward application in writing to secretary Fiona O Meara, 27 Marian park, for consideration by Friday 16th Jan.
The A.G.M. will take place on Sun 18th Jan at 2-30 pm in the clubhouse.

Short Cycles For Young Children
As part of the Fit Towns Initiative there will be short cycles for young kids of all ages running in the Forest Park, Portumna. The cycles will be running in conjunction with Portumna Cycling Club and organised by Dr Derek Fahy. All children attending must be accompanied by an adult.
This is a great opportunity for kids to leave behind the Playstation’s, Nintendo’s and laptops and get some exercise on their bikes in a safe environment. The cycles will begin Saturday the 17th January from 2pm until 3pm starting at the pavilion in the car park. It will run for the allocated six weeks, after this period the Cycling Club hope to facilitate the cycles as part of a programme called Sprocket Rocket run by Cycling Ireland.

Fit Towns PortumnaFit Towns Portumna
Sunday 18 January sees the official launch of Fit Towns Portumna. It is planned for Portumna Forest Park at 12 o clock and it is envisaged a number of local celebrities will be present to officially launch this fun filled programme of activities for young and old within the area. A new initiative formed by Galway Sports Partnership (GSP) to encourage communities to become more physically active known as 'Fit Towns'.
Activities running over 'Fit Towns' period, 19th Jan - 28th Feb and all are encouraged and welcome to participate.
4 x 4: Each Thursday from 7-9pm children from 12-15years can try out Soccer, Rugby, Hurling & Camogie. Venue: GAA & Soccer pitches. Contact: Cllr Anne Rabbitte for more information on 087-2424704.
Walking Club: Meeting each Tuesday at 8pm. Aim is get people to walk around the town in the safety of buddy system. Venue: Meet at Portumna Square Car Park. Contact: Orla Kennedy 085-1903246.

Killimor GAA
Last week’s lotto numbers were 11, 16, 17, and 23. The jackpot was €9,300. Last week’s 5 lucky dip winners (€20) were Frank Donoghue, Mats Frisk C/O Duffy’s Bar, Nora McKeige, Bridget Murphy and Joan Poland. The yearly lotto tickets are available from the club officers. Next week's jackpot is €9,400 which will be held in Duffy’s.


Taekwondo Class
Damase Morinn is running a World Taekwondo class every Friday in the engine room, fitness and well being centre from 8pm to 9pm.
