Portumna & District Lions Club - Annual Fun Cycle
Portumna & District Lions Club Annual Fun Cycle will take place on Sunday, 21st June at 1pm in Portumna Square. Get on yer bike on Sunday 21 June in support of this year’s selected local charity, St. Dympna’s Centre. We need cyclists – prizes for funniest bike/cyclist, best individual/club fundraised etc. You can get a sponsor card from 087-7427950 only €2 a line. Or donations accepted on the day. No entry fee. Come and join in the fun & do some good for your local community at the same time!


Woodford Waste Water Treatment Plant
Cllr Anne Rabbitte is delighted to announce that Irish Water have confirmed that Woodford Waste Water Treatment Plant is to be included as part of the small plant improvement scheme. Consultants have been invited to tender to complete a design which involves assessing the existing Waste Water treatment plant and making recommendations for provision of adequate treatment and compacity. Cllr Rabbitte has been assured by Irish Water that the design review work will commence in June 2015 and completed by the end of the year.


Table Quiz - Irish Motor Neurone Association Fundraiser
Mark Ryan is holding a table quiz in the Boat House Bar Portumna on Saturday 23 May at 9pm. All funds raised will go to the Irish Motor Neurone Association. This is the final leg of Mark’s challenge to run 8 marathons in his dad Sean’s memory and to fundraise for IMNDA.
Sean passed away in May 2006 after battling Motor Neurone for 8 years. Mark will be completing his 8th and final marathon in Cork city on bank holiday Monday 1st June. This is a list of the 8 marathon that Marks has ran for IMNDA since October 2012. Dublin (2012 & 2013) Cork (2013, 2014 & 2015) Connemara (2014) Clonakilty (2014) and Paris (2015).
Please come along on the night to support a great cause. We are also looking for local businesses or individuals to sponsor prizes on the night. Anything at all large or small would be greatly appreciated.


Computer Skills Course
Do you want to learn computer skills/improve your employment prospects? Training is suitable for beginners and advanced users and is open to everybody – QQI (FETAC) certified. Summer Day of Gentle Yoga
A 'Summer Day of Gentle Yoga' will take place at An Gáirdín, Portumna, Sunday 31st May from 10.30am - 4pm. This will be a relaxing day of Yoga and Meditation, facilitated by Ruth Ganley, qualified teacher from the Bihar school of Yoga, India (since 2003). The postures, breathwork, relaxation and meditation all help to deepen awareness and bring about balance of mind, body and spirit. The day costs 50euro and includes organic lunch. Some concessions available. To reserve a place contact Ruth at 0872434759 or ruthganley@gmail.com

The final night of the Contract Bridge Club was held on the 11th May 2015. Killimor GAA
Last week’s lotto numbers were 1, 10, 14 and 16. The jackpot was €1,600. Last week’s 5 lucky dip winners (€20) were Paul Cormican, Mary Moyston c/o Linda Reilly, Declan Winters, Tommy Glynn and Lauren Lyons. Next week's jackpot is €1,700 which will be held in Nevin’s.


Course in Traditional Stone Wall Construction
A course in traditional stone walling will start soon in Portumna. No previous experience in construction is required. The aim of the programme is to enable the learner to build a range of traditional stonewalls from plans working under supervision. The course, will last 25 weeks, will also cover the Safe Pass, safety & manual handling and career planning. There will be a module dedicated to conservation & restoration, making this course an ideal foundation for people interested in pursuing work in this area.
Applicants must have reached the current statutory school leaving age, have good numerical skills and verbal and written command of the English language. They must also be able to work at heights and have a reasonable level of physical fitness. Applicants should also be aware that elements of the programme will take place in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions. This course is open to everybody. However, preference will be given to applicants in receipt of a social welfare payment, who will receive a training allowance.

Portumna GAA
There was no winner of last weekend's lotto jackpot worth €6200. The numbers drawn were 3, 10, 16, 18. Five people matched three numbers.
Well done the junior A hurlers who got off to a good start with a win over Carnmore at the weekend. Their next game is against Ardrahan at the weekend.
Also congrats to the u16 hurlers who have reached the semi final stages of their competion. They have a break now until after the exams.
The club, in conjunction with O Mearas Supervalu, is collecting vouchers for juvenile kits for the club's young hurlers. We need to collect a minimum of 2000 vouchers to qualify and with your help we can achieve this. When you spend €40 in Super Valu you will receive a voucher and put in the box which says Portumna G.A.A. Club. Offer valid from Monday 11 May to Sunday 5 July. Your support would be appreciated.


Davitts Camogie Club
Our u8 girls took part in their first blitz and did very well winning two out of three matches.
Our u9 team had a comprehensive victory over Athenry in the second round of their championship.
The u12's completed a great week for the club by defeating Eyrecourt on a scoreline of 4-6 to 1-1.
Well done to all involved.


Redwood National School
Enrolment Day: Redwood N.S. will have their enrolment day for new Junior Infants on Wednesday 3 June from 09.20 to 12.30. It is a fantastic opportunity for your child to become familiar with their teacher and meet the children who will be in their class to help make the transition to Primary school easier. Opening Hours: Redwood N.S. will be open from 8.30 am every morning for pupils to arrive. School will start at 8.50 am for all classes and finish at 1.30pm for infants and all other classes will finish at 2.30pm.
After school Homework/Activity club: Redwood N.S. will run an afterschool club each evening directly after school until 5pm.
Artist in Primary School Scheme: We are delighted to have been selected to take part in this scheme funded by Tipperary County Council. The children will be working with artist Joanna Williams in the area of shadow performance and puppetry. The scheme involves 50 hours of contact time between the children and artist at the end of which the children exhibit their work along with other successful schools in Tipperary. The work the children will undertake will all fall under the theme of ‘Biodiversity’ as we work towards our fifth green flag.
Parents Association: Redwood N.S. would like to thank all our parents for the great work in organising and running the annual buffet dance fundraiser. A huge thank you to all those who supported the dance. The money raised will now go to purchasing new laptops for the pupils.
Athletics: Congratulations to all the pupils from 3rd to 6th class who participated in the track and field events in Borrisokane Athletic Club last week. The children all did exceptionally well, bringing home medals in boys and girls shot putt, boys 100m sprint and girls 100m sprint.
Tennis / Hurling: Tennis lessons continue with Miss. Darcy each week on the school court and the lunchtime tennis league is in full swing. The junior classes have now begun their hurling training sessions with trainer Jimmy Dunne and are showing great skill and determination!!
