Walking Tour of Portumna
This Saturday 25 July, Cllr Anne Rabbitte is inviting people to join her on a walking tour of Portumna. The walk is an exciting opportunity for anyone wanting to learn more about the town’s rich history. Local historian, John Joe Conwell has kindly volunteered his time to lead the tour and is sure to provide attendees with a plethora of tales about the history of Portumna and how the streetscape has changed and evolved over the years.
This walk has been organized with a view to developing a permanent ‘Heritage walking tour’ in the town following the success of similar projects undertaken around the country. It is part of an initiative to boost Portumna’s tourist trade by highlighting how much the town has to offer. The walk is free and will kick off at The Hub, Brendan’s street Portumna at 10.30 am and will last approximately an hour. All ages welcome, children must be supervised. Join us for the first step of an exciting new chapter in Portumna Tourism!

S.C.É.A.L.
S.C.É.A.L. (Social Community Enterprise for the Advancement of Lorrha/Rathcabbin) would like to sincerely thank Lorrha and Dorrha Community Council who presented us with €4700. This Community Council group had set prior to 2000 and had done great work around the parish such as at Bonaham, Pallas and lights outside Redwood Church. We will put this to good use along with other monies received in promoting and investing in our parish. We would like to thank Louie McCormack and P.J. Nevin (Lorrha and Dorrha Community Council) for making this funding possible.
We are collecting material for a photographic and video archive, we ask anyone who has old photos or videos relative to anyone in the parish to please contact us so we can make copies and return your originals. We also welcome any donations or loan of local memorabilia. We intend to have visual display for heritage week (runs fron 22nd to 30th Aug). Please contact any of our members or contact us through our facebook page. We will be organising an interactive heritage walk focused on our local bogs and will be organising a village market, more details to follow.
A meeting has being organised for this Friday night 25 July at 8.30p.m. In Maher's Lorrha where we will be meeting with Leader representatives and councilor’s Michael O'Meara, Anne Rabbite and Joe Hannigan on the promotion of the wider community of Portumna, Lorrha and Terryglass. All welcome.
