A.S.I.S.T. Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training
The Galway Suicide Resource Office in conjunction with The Portumna and District Lions Club are holding a two day training workshop to help individuals recognise and intervene to assist people at risk of suicide within their work, community or family group. The A.S.I.S.T. training workshop is a two-day training programme and is suitable for all kinds of caregivers, professional workers, volunteers, people responding to family and friends. Must be Over 18 to attend. This programme will be available on Thursday 12th Friday 13th November 2015. Venue Portumna GAA Clubhouse. No cost involved. Portumna Rugby Pitch Development
Monster Auction on Sunday 1st November at 12.30pm in Portumna Mart. Items such as Turf, Timber, Animal Feedstuffs, Electrical Goods and much more will be available on the day. All proceeds are going towards the development of new playing facilities for everyone in the wider community to enjoy. Please come along and support.


South East Galway Archaeological and Historical Society
Early notice of our own next lecture (Workhouse Centre at 8:30 on Tue Nov 17th) which will be by Joe Coleman on ‘The Stolen Railway’. The railway in question ran between Parsonstown (Birr) and Portumna Bridge, opened in 1868, but closed just a decade. The story behind its closure and the subsequent ‘disappearance’ is one not to be missed. Joe will be speaking to the society for the first time and this will be our final lecture of the year.
Finally, we are currently working on a special newsletter for the 1916 commemorations and we await your input. Articles on all topics are welcome so those of you who have been working on same, we look forward to receiving them before Christmas.


Woodford Parish Development
AGM in Woodford Community Hall on Wednesday 4 November at 8.30pm. The Committee thank you for your support over the past year and look forward to seeing you there on the night.


The Artist's Way Workshop

Davitts Camogie Club
We are holding a collection of unwanted clothes, shoes, bed linen, mobile phones, laptops this Saturday 31st October between 10am -12pm, at Woodford hall and Duniry pitch. All contributions are greatly appreciated.
The club will hold its AGM on Friday 6th November at 8pm in Duniry community centre. All parents and members are urged to attend.


Portumna Tidy Towns
Work has now been completed by Mattieu & Mitchell on the annex at the side of Portumna Courthouse. The finishing touches like, painting the facia board and Tidy Towns and TUS will complete windows. The cost of the Project €2.600 is being funded by a Community-based Heritage Grant Scheme to the tune of €1,200-00 from the Heritage Council while the remainder has been raised through sponsorship from the local businesses, Church gate collection and car boot sale. We would like to sincerely thank all those who contributed.


Portumna GAA Club

Last week's lotto numbers were 2, 9, 18 and 21. The five lucky dips (20 euro) were Paul Finnegan, Mary Larkin, Kevin Glynn, Eithne Madden and Michael Winters.

Cash for Clobber - St. Dympna’s A.D.S. Fundraiser
Family and friends of St. Dympna’s A.D.S. Portumna Branch, are organizing a 'Cash for Clobber' collection for unwanted clothes, towels, sheets, curtains, bed lined etc. This will take place on Tuesday 24 November from 7.30 to 9.30pm and on Wednesday 25 November from 8am to 10am in portumna Town Hall. All monies raised will only benefit St. Dympna’s, Portumna.


Lorrha News
Speech & Drama Lessons: Pre-school Speech and Drama lessons will take place on Thursdays commencing Thur. 5 November from 3.10 to 4.00pm for 3-4 year olds, in Lorrha N.S. Please ring (090) 9747295 to enroll your child.
Calendar Launch: Prior to the launch of the 2016 Lorrha & Dorrha parish calendar on Saturday night 7 November, in The Ferry Inn, a three course meal will be served at 8pm sharp. Date For Your Diary: The annual Lorrha Christmas Market and Auction will take place as like previous years, on Sunday 6 December.
