Abbey 10K 2016
Details of the forthcoming 4th Annual Abbey 10K race have recently been announced. The race takes place on Sunday 13th March in Abbey village and its main sponsor this year in Galway Foot Golf. The event is open to all athletes. Joggers and walkers are especially welcome. This is an approved Athletics Association of Ireland race. For the first time the race will have 'chipped timing' with Ret Tag.com. Entries are now open on www.runireland.com .Further details will be released later.


Mark Pollock Trust
The Engine Room Fitness & Wellbeing Centre in Portumna are running a 12 hour indoor cycle fundraiser event this Sunday 10th January from 6am to 5pm for Mark Pollock Trust. The Trust are working tirelessly on research with spinal cord injuries. For more information about the Trust https://www.markpollocktrust.org/

Adult Further Education
Portumna College of Adult Further Education (Old VEC) St.Brigid's Road on Wednesday 6th January 2016 from 9 am to 6 pm will be registering for courses in Healthcare Support, Horticulture, Tourism, Food Safety/HACCP, Computers, Spanish, English for Speakers of Ether Languages, Adult Literacy. All courses free for unemployed, job seekers, fees for the employed. Portumna GAA
There was no winner of last weekend lotto jackpot worth €9200. The numbers drawn were 10, 21, 24, 25. Three people matched three numbers Enda Hayes, Marie Slattery & Marguerite Dolphin. They each receive €35.
The juvenile A.G.M will take place on Tuesday 12th January @ 8pm in Clubhouse. All parents are requested to attend.
Membership for 2016: Players Adult €50, Non players €20, Student €30, Family for 2 adults and as many children u16 €90.


BT Young Scientist
The BT Young Scientist competition will be of particular interest to Portumna Community School this weekend with a total of five entries having made it through to the finals. This is the largest ever representation from the school for the prestigious competition which takes place in the R.D.S this weekend. Saoirse Mullen and Ciara Lyons - Investigation of the effectiveness of the Environmental Management Plan during the upgrade of Portumna Marina on Lough Derg, Galway. Ms Niamh Barry, Ms Sinead Keena, Oisin Donoghue, Denis McLaughlin and Cathal Conroy - To investigate the use of the TAMS scheme by farmers in relation to farm safety. Niall Duane - To design an educational program for Minor Hurlers towards protein nutrition and supplementation. Mr Paul Maguire, Stephen Conroy and Eoin Gallagher - Does computer coding improve problem solving? Fiachra Callan and Eric Duane - To investigate and compare four flexibility-training principles among a cohort of 13-14 year olds.


Portumna and District Active Retirement Association
A wonderful Christmas dinner was served to our members in the Meadowcourt Hotel and we wish to thank their staff and also all the business people of Portumna and our members who contributed to an excellent raffle after the meal.
On Thursday 17 December our Ecumenical Christmas celebration and remembrance of all deceased members took place with the help of Rev. Patrick Towers and Father Lawless. Both the ARA choir and the Omna singers sang some joyous Christmas music after which tea and cake together in our beautifully floral decorated hall. Thanks to all who contributed to make it such a splendid final meeting for 2015.
We shall restart our meetings on the 14th of January and we hope to hold our A.G.M. on the 4th Febuary.


Yoga in An Gáirdín

Mindfulness Retreat Day : Saturday 30th January 10am – 4.30pm. Gerry Cunningham MIAHP, The Mindfulness Clinic, Dublin, will be back to facilitate a ‘New Year, Wise Intention ‘day to support us in our Mindfulness Intentions for the coming year of 2016. Killimor GAA
Last weeks lotto numbers were 1, 11, 20 and 30. The 5 lucky dips (20) were Fergus Reilly, Tom O Hara, Ann Kelly, Mary O Grady and Ann Smyth. Next weeks jackpot is £5,000 and the draw will be held in Kirwan's. The club wishes all its members and supporters a happy New Year.
