Portumna Community School - Sponsored Walk For UNICEF
As part of our CSPE project, we have invited Mr. Joe Canning, who is an Ambassador to UNICEF, to come into the school and speak to all of the 2nd Year students about the Charity and his role and experiences with UNICEF. Our Class would like to be able to give some very much-needed funds to this Charity, which we decided to raise through a sponsored walk. This has been organised for all 2nd Year students on Friday 29 January, 2016. The walk will involve walking to the Forest park from the school via the Portumna Castle entrance and will be held from 11.35-12.50 weather permitting. The 2nd year students must bring suitable footwear with them on the day to wear on the walk. All students will be supplied with a high-vis jacket courtesy of Galway Co. Council.
Today each 2nd yr. student has been given a sponsorship card and a letter to bring home to their parents about the walk. We kindly ask that all sponsorship cards along with any money collected be returned to Ms. Lyons or Anne in the office by Friday 29 January.

Acorn Theatre Company Present 'The Real Inspector Hound'
Acorn Theatre Company, Ballinasloe, are currently in rehearsal for their next production, 'The Real Inspector Hound'. The play written by one of Britain’s best dramatists, Tom Stoppard, not surprisingly contains a great deal of witty and amusing dialogue in addition to an array of odd and confusing characters.
The author throws together two theatre critics, one who regularly falls for pretty young actresses and the other who is decidedly second rate. He then adds in the stock characters of “Who Done It” inevitably much fun and confusion follows until all is revealed in the end.
The cast is drawn mainly from the areas of Ballinasloe and Portumna. Director, Eamon O’Donoghue is confident that audiences will find the production to be entertaining and likely to raise more than a laugh or two.
The play runs for three nights at the Town Hall, Ballinasloe, January 28, 29 & 30 at 8.30pm booking 090 9643338.
