Portumna Cycling Club - Sprocket Rocket
Portumna Cycling Club have launched a programme called “Sprocket Rocket” to encourage more kids to cycle. Sprocket Rocket is the name given to Cycling Ireland's foundation Cycling Skills Programme, which focuses on delivery to youth, aged 7 to 11 years old but can be delivered to anyone of any age new to the sport. The programme presents young riders with the opportunity to learn fundamental cycling skills such as balance, peddling, braking and cornering. It is being run out in conjunction with the Fit Towns and caters for the physical development and interest kids may have in cycling. Currently half way through the six-week period it will take place at Portumna National School on Saturday the 26th and April 2nd from 3:15 to 4:15.

A Family Rising
The World Premier of "A Family Rising" by Greg O'Connor, will take place in Portumna Town Hall on Friday 22 April and Sunday 24 April 2016 for two performances only. With a cast of 17, this original play will outline a family drama of a brother and sister caught in the maelstrom of both the Magdalene Laundry System and the Easter Rising of 1916. The drama takes the audience on a journey from East Galway to Dublin and New York and back. It chronicles the hardships endured by both Mary and Seamus Craughwell and the characters they meet as they progress their lives to new beginnings.
