Portumna Players Present 'A Family Fising'
Portumna Players will take to the stage for one last performance of "A Family Rising" by Greg O'Connor, Town Hall Portumna on Sunday 15th May. Curtain up 8.30 pm. This performance is a Fundraiser for Portumna Town Hall in need of urgent roof repairs.


Day Computer / Employment Skills Course
Do you want to learn computer skills/improve your employment prospects? Training is suitable for beginners and advanced users and is open to everybody – QQI (FETAC)– certified (Levels 3 and 5). Eligible participants may be entitled to receive a training allowance from GRETB, childcare & travel allowance is also available. Killimor Lotto
Last weeks lotto numbers were 10, 18, 20 and 25. The 5 lucky dips were Billy & Nuala Hoary, Savina Broderick, Mary Gordon, Regina Dervan and Niall Quinn. Next weeks draw is £6,700 in Duffy’s.


Portumna and District Active Retirement Association
There was a very successful cluster meeting held in Portumna Retirement Village social hall with a wide attendance of other local A.R.A’s. Discussed were past events and upcoming events which might unite and share busses, etc. Members please contact social committee as regards the trip to Birr Castle coming up shortly. Choir is meeting at 7 pm this Thursday to practice.


Kettlebells Course
New 6-week beginners kettlebells course is starting Wednesday 11 May at 6.15pm in The Engine Room Fitness & Wellbeing Centre Portumna. Still places remaining so if your interested please contact Sarah Killeen 087-2117262 or email us on info@engineroomportumna.ie


Children’s Art Exhibition
Ute Duggan wishes to thank all her art students for their participation in this year's children's art exhibition in Portumna library, to their parents for all their support and to Theresa Tierney and Mary Horrigan for their generous help at all times. It was a wonderful success!


Galway Heritage Building Show 2016
At Portumna Castle & Gardens, Saturday 7 May and Sunday 8 May, 10am to 5pm daily. FREE admission both days.
A weekend of traditional building skills, demonstrations and conservation talks. Take the opportunity to watch over two dozen craftspeople demonstrate key traditional building skills including, sash window repairs, stained glass conservation, stone carving, use of lime based mortars to name but a few. Listen to informative and interactive talks on old buildings: their history, maintenance and repair. Talk to representatives at their information stands.
The weekend is sponsored by, The Irish Georgian Society & Galway County Council in association with the Office of Public Works. All are welcome!


Afternoon Tea Dance
To celebrate the Bealtaine Festival, an Afternoon Tea Dance will be held in Shragh Community Centre, Shragh, Woodford on Sunday 15th May. Dancing to Larry McEvoy from 3pm – 6pm. So put on your dancing shoes and come along to a great afternoon of music, song and dance. Tea, Coffee and delicious home baking will be served. Raffle and lots of spot prizes on the day. All are welcome.

Contract Bridge Club
The Contract Bridge Club Portumna held The President's Competition over the past 2 weeks. The President, Cecilia Cox, presented her prize to the winners, John & Judy Craig. Other winners were 2nd: Sheila Dillon & Kim Sundgren. Feile Skills Competition Winner
Well done to Maeve Muldoon (1st year) on winning the 2016 under 14 Feile skills. Maeve has now qualified to represent Galway at the All-Ireland Feile Skills competition in Tipperary in June. A great achievement.


Weekend in the Hills, Festival of Traditional Crafts
Once known as Weekend in the Woods, this popular two day event (May 7th-8th and Sept 24th–25th) is now held at Slieve Aughty Centre, an eco friendly and certified organic venue, situated 10 km outside Loughrea town in county Galway. A busy equestrian and activity centre, the venue has ample space for parking, camping and even has 9 glorious bedrooms and two lodges for those who wish to experience some luxury for a night or two. Meals are prepared by the team at Slieve Aughty Centre, and must be booked in advance. You can email or ring them on 090 9745 246.
Those attending the events, spend two days learning their chosen skill. Most students go home with a finished piece, although this is not the objective of the event. The aim is to teach the techniques and skills needed to go home and persue the craft or subject studied over the weekend.


Anti-bullying and Cyber-bullying Talk
A talk on 'Anti-bullying and Cyber-bullying' which will take place on Wednesday, 11th May at 7.30p.m. The course is free of charge and are being led by the NPC (National Parents Council) All are welcome to attend. Contact the school on 090 9747186 for any queries.
