Portumna Marina and Bridge Road
Councillor Jimmy Mc Clearn has been informed that the Minister for Regional Development, Rural Affairs, Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht has given consent for trenching works at the Marina Road Portumna. These works are to facilitate the provision of a new state of the art energy efficient lighting system. The Ministers consent was required because of the close proximity of these works to the Protected Structures in the area. The work, which will now be undertaken by Electric Skyline on behalf of Galway County Council, will replace the existing lights with cables been undergrounded.
Councillor Mc Clearn said that This is part of the Marina upgrade and once this work is completed a complete overlay of this road will be carried out by Kelly's of Fantane who have been awarded the contract. This road is in a very poor state of repair and its upgrade will be the final part of the Marina Project.
More good News: An allocation of €272,000 has been approved by Transport Infrastructure Ireland formally the NRA for improvement works to the N65 at Bridge Road Portumna, has been welcomed by Councillor Jimmy Mc Clearn  who said that this funding was very necessary as part of this road was severely damaged by flooding earlier this year. Cllr Mc Clearn said that he had continually raised this matter at Loughrea Municipal District meeting and had been in constant contact with the senior engineers both with  Galway County Council and  the TII.
Councillor Mc Clearn also said that he will continue to press for funding for other sections of this road at, Kilmeen, Coolagh, Killimor village and Clonfert Avenue Portumna.
