Red Cross Update
The local Red Cross wishes to thank everyone especially the local traders for supporting their dance in the Shannon Oaks Hotel 2 weeks ago. John Hogan and his band provided the music for the night. The local Red Cross has ongoing training and recently 18 of its members received their certificates in Intermediate First Aid. Two adult members of the team achived the level of Cardiac First Responder Instructors, they are Sean Murphy and his Son Ray. The weekly meetings have closed for the summer months but will resume on the first Monday in September, new members always welcome.

Our Branch provides training in the following areas:
- Practical first / basic first aid
- Intermediate first aid
- (E.M.F.R.) Emergency Medical First Responder
- (E.F.R.) Emergency First Responder
By joining our branch you can avail of life saving training and the cost of membership is only €10 per year. All training, equipment, and certification is supplied by the Branch throughout the various stages of training upon successful completion and certification at each level.
We are also in need of a number of drivers to drive our Ambulance. All drivers must satisfy the requirement of the Irish Red Cross for ambulance drivers.
By joining our branch you will have the opportunity to serve on various ambulance duties such as sporting and community events in addition to aquiring vital liefsaving skills that may be useful in everyday life. The Red Cross internationally is the largest Humanitarian Organisation in the world with over 2 million member's world wide. These members are engaged in assisting in the most devasted areas of disaster in addition to providing on going community assistance in their own areas.
We meet every Monday night in Na Calai, Abbey Street, Portumna (in the upstairs of the building) @ 8pm.
